Lithium iron phosphate battery is a lithium-ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. Lithium-ion battery cathode materials are mainly lithium cobaltate, lithium manganate, lithium nickelate, ternary materials, lithium iron phosphate and so on. Among them, lithium cobaltate is currently the majority of lithium-ion battery cathode materials used.

 

The structural characteristics of lithium iron phosphate batteries

The left side of lithium iron phosphate batteries is the olivine structure of LiFePO4 material constituting the positive electrode, which is connected to the positive electrode of the battery by an aluminium foil. On the right side is the negative electrode of the battery consisting of carbon (graphite), which is connected to the negative electrode of the battery by a copper foil. In the middle is the polymer diaphragm which separates the positive electrode from the negative electrode, lithium ions can pass through the diaphragm but not electrons. The battery is filled with electrolyte and is hermetically sealed by a metal casing.

1. Small size and light weight

The volume of lithium iron phosphate batteries of the same capacity is 1/3 of the volume of lead-acid batteries, and the weight is 1/3 of the lead-acid batteries.

2. Good safety performance

Lithium iron phosphate cathode material electrochemical properties are relatively stable, in the process of charging and discharging the battery structure will not change, will not burn and explode, and even in the short circuit, overcharge, extrusion, pinprick and other special conditions, is still very safe.

3. Long cycle life

Lithium iron phosphate battery cycle life is generally up to 2000 times, or even up to 3500 times, to ensure 8-10 years of service life, higher than the cycle life of more than 1000 ternary batteries, while the cycle life of long-life lead-acid batteries in about 300 times.

4. No memory effect

Rechargeable battery in often in the full not put out under the conditions of work, the capacity will quickly fall below the rated capacity value, this phenomenon is called the memory effect.
